È della "Tun Tavern" uno dei luoghi di fondazione del Corpo dei Marines: in questa taverna situata in King Street a Philadelphia vennero infatti redatti nel novembre del 1775 i primi regolamenti riguardanti l'istituzione della specialità dei "Continental Marines" e sempre nello stesso luogo venne aperto il primo ufficio di reclutamento del Corpo
